On the Lighter Side

This fundraiser has, er, balls. You gotta hand it to these guys (from News-Press.com):
“It’s just kinda silly; it really is,” Kit Chamberlain, a festival worker, told the council. The annual festival has raised about $3,000 for the Harry Chapin Food Bank in each of its past three years. The Surf Club, a Beach bar, hosts the quirky event.

The testicles, which are deep fried and dipped in a variety of sauces, are what make the festival such a novelty, supporters said. To take that out of its advertisement could affect attendance.

“You get people who use their cell phone to call people and say, you can’t believe what I’m eating,” Chamberlain said.

Their logo — a frightened turkey with his arms over his crossed legs — is a big sell on T-shirts. Farms in North Carolina donate 100 pounds of turkey testicles.

“If it was a breast cancer awareness raise, would they drop the word breast?” asked Chamberlain, who said all festival advertisements have been printed already.
Glad the title wasn't castrated - it got my attention, and I'm sure it will do the same for many others. I hope they make twice as much this year for their cause!

Addendum:: This post has made me take pause regarding what will be in my giblet gravy for Thanksgiving.... Perhaps the turkeys that "donated" should be given one of these.
