Saving the Jewels

No, these things below are not Mickey Mouse ears. Designed by Pam Krieg, RN, a neonatal ICU nurse, I saw these little radiation shields in our neonatal unit recently and was happy to see they're using them on our little ones:

As a cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist who gets way too much radiation, I can appreciate their importance and loved their shape. But it wasn't until I read their instructions for use that I realized why their shaped that way. It seems the shape is used differently for boys vs. girls.
