Dr. Wes, Forgive my interuption. Can't find the appropriate post regarding the FDA and its lapses. Please read NYT, 9/24/10, article: New FDA Transparencies Flexibilities. I don't know that it is totally relevant to your post, but it is information that should be considered as other issues arise.
This is a good example of the triumph of emotion over reason, common sense and humanitarianism.
We all agree: sad that Tara died.
We all agree: great that 5 people gained improved lives.
What we need to consider are:
Our Constitution says that we may not be deprived of "life, liberty and property without due process of law."
Denying a person the right to SELL his body parts is unconstitutional.
Denying a person the option to SELL his body parts denies millions of persons around the world the right to a better life.
I am one of many who WILL NOT agree to any "donation" of my body parts unless my heirs benefit substantially in an open organ market.
