Grand Rounds is Up

It's been eighteen hours and counting since a storm squall passed through Chicago last evening knocking out about 250,000 folks' electricity, including mine. Fortunately, Shrink Rap has offered a well-timed Summer Soltice edition of Grand Rounds on "hot" topics for your enjoyment while I see if I can get a battery backup system for my sump pump...

  1. Get a Basement Watchdog.

Also, to get ComEd to hook you up sooner than later, walk your neighborhood and look at the powerlines as soon as possible after the worst of a storm. If you find a ruined hookup or downed wire or tree on wire call them and report it to a comed rep. Always say that the line is from "pole to pole" and not "pole to house". Don't wait for your stupid neighbors to call it in, remember, they are stupid...
